Back when they were dazzling the LA scene in the early eighties, Michael was documenting X the Band, on and off stage. Over the years, he shot portraits of the band and with Exene produced the 1982-1984 calendars, as well as the limited edition Lucky 13 Box Set of X Postcards (1,300 sets now out of print). In 2007, Leslie Caldera designed an X the Band 30th Anniversary Stamp Sheet incorporating Michael’s photographs. X: On the Road and At the Crossroads, featuring Michael’s photographs, was published by Perceval Press in September 2025. Links to all of Michael’s X the Band related products are gathered here on one page.

Beyond and Back: The Story of X

X is a cross on its side, a type of chromosome, an axis in a three-dimensional system, an unknown quantity, an American rock ‘n’ roll band. X is to Los Angeles what The Ramones were to New York and The Sex Pistols and The Clash were to London. No wonder Spin Magazine named X the 4th greatest Punk Rock Band of All-Time. X the band is songwriter Exene Cervenka on vocals, songwriter John Doe on vocals and bass, Billy Zoom on guitar and D.J Bonebrake on drums. Contains 9 Michael Hyatt photos plus cover shot.
